Community Outreach
The Lafayette High School students are involved in many community service projects through a variety of organizations, sports, and clubs. LPO is one of those organizations which supports our students' efforts and encourages their involvement alongside their parents. We have several service project opportunities throughout the year.
Adopt-a-Family
Holiday giving also brings out the best in our students. LPO works with LHS counselors for an annual program. Various LHS groups, clubs, and organizations will band together to purchase a family's wish list items ranging from clothes, coats, books, games, toys, electronics, gift cards, and even household staples like cleaning supplies. Typical organizations participating may include an entire LHS class, Key Club, National Honors Society (NHS), Air Force Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (AFJROTC), Student Council (StuCo), etc. LPO is thankful for the overwhelming generosity of the entire LHS community when it comes to our service projects. We are consistently amazed by your selfless, giving spirit.
Rockwood School District's "Got Your Back Pack"
Each weekend, the Got Your Back Pack program helps bring nutritious food to students in need.
Did you know?
Homelessness touches nearly every Rockwood school. In fact, current numbers show 180 Rockwood students are homeless with 32 percent of students residing in the county and 68 percent residing in the city.
How does Got Your Back Pack work?
Each weekend, our homeless students receive a backpack filled with nutritious food items that are easy to open, simple to prepare and can accommodate a variety of living circumstances.
You can help in 2 ways:
- Nearly every week, a few volunteers are needed to help prepare backpacks for district-wide distribution. Visit Got Your Back Pack for more information.
- The program couldn't flourish without the amazing support from our community. This year, we've made it even easier to donate!
Donations may also be dropped off at any Rockwood school.

Together We Can!
This is a massive food drive involving our students, families, and our community. Recognizing that hunger is a real problem, the LHS family organized this drive for the purpose of serving those in their own community. Some students trick-or-treat for canned goods. Other students ask their families, friends, and neighbors for canned food donations. Some go shopping at the Amazon Pantry and others give money and let someone else do the shopping. And nearly all of them challenge their fellow first period classes to friendly competitions in an effort to bring the most donations. The Lafayette Welcome Center graciously opens their doors daily to collect donations as well.
Volunteer with the LPO
The LPO is always busy supporting the students, teachers and school. We are always looking for new volunteers to help in the school store, community outreach events, grade-level fundraising events and more! If you would like to find out more about volunteering, contact the LPO 1st Vice President.
