Lancer Parent Organization Executive Board Meeting

February 13, 2023

Call to Order: 7:00 p.m.

Minutes:

Principal’s Report, Dr. Calcaterra:

·         New Assistant Principal—Dr. Borzillo—will be coming to LHS. Dr. Jones will take Class of 2024 at Dr. Mehrotra’s retirement.

·         Best Buddies had a Valentine’s Day Party.

·         STUCO will be passing out mini bundt cakes to all students tomorrow.

·         School landscaping beautification project at entrance and Welcome Center door by Passiglia’s. Need $7500 – approved by vote.

President, Sara Robeson:

●       Opening remarks

●       Upcoming events – Junior and Sophomore class fundraisers (Trivia Night and Fun Run).

o   Motion to purchase acrylic frames for all class silent auctions. Propose $75. Motion passes.

●       Other upcoming events – Volleyball Tournament and Special Olympics. More to come.

●       Final meeting for the 2022-2023 school year is in June. The budget approval meeting for 2023-2024 will be in May.

●       Grant requests – this process starts in March with Dr. Calcaterra’s Monday Memo requesting grant applications. Past approved grant money purchased a 3D printer, journalism seminar tuition, TV for building, microwaves for Commons, etc.

o   $10,000 is current grant budget

o   Prior to Covid, LPO typically granted $18,000 - $25,000 per year.

●       Teacher Appreciation activities – would like to add an additional $4000 for a Parent/Teacher conferences, as well as for Staff Appreciation. There is $2300 left in the budget.

 

2nd Vice President, Aleta Harris:

 

●       Communications from Class Directors and others should be sent to both lancerparentorg@gmail.com and lancerparentorgpresident@gmail.com.

 

Treasurer, Mark Masterson/Carren Rogan:

·         Spirit Wear income was $3368.84 in January.

·         Lancer Landing was $8864.44 in January.

·         Suggest direction donation promotion after class fundraisers this spring.

·         Carren amended budget proposal - add $4500 to Grant line (total of $15,000) and $3000 to Hospitality to take care of Staff Appreciation.

·         Motion to allocate $10,000 to new cooler for school store. Tabling this until more information about maintenance costs is obtained.

·         Motion to allow credit card charges below $5 in Lancer Landing. We know that some of these low amount charges are being allowed. Average $240 per day in credit card transactions. This would be a change in the official policy, but we would not advertise this change. This motion was split for and against.

 

Parent Pay/Square, Deanna Vardeman:

·         Contact Deanna for class fundraiser Parent Pay or Square needs.

 

 

School Store, Shalini Arya:

·         Volunteers are desperately needed

·         Use time-lapse store video promo in Lancer Feed?

 

Membership, Amy Buckley:

·         We are at $9101 – so close!

 

Community Outreach, April Ladner:

·         Next big community event is the volleyball tournament.

 

Seniors:

·         Memory Maker tickets sold to date:

o   83 Father/Son

o   105 Mother/Son

o   115 Father/Daughter

o   136 Mother/Daughter

·         Celebration: 169

Juniors:

·         We would like to see more support from parents and students

·         Looking at 3 judges

·         Trivia Night is February 25, 2023.

 

Sophomores:

·         Fun Run is April 30, 2023 at 9:00 a.m.

·         $30 registration fee includes bib & tshirt

·         Will have a Kids Run as well.

·         Volunteers are signing up – still need ad, registration, and volunteer chairs.
