PSAT

The PSAT is not a college admittance exam. Less than 2% of all testers qualify as National Merit Finalists.

Sophomores and Juniors with strong English and math coursework (completed at least through Geometry) are typically most successful. This test is optional - you must sign up and pay to take the PSAT/NMSQT!

The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is the official route of entry to the National Merit Scholarship Program. The PSAT/NMSQT is a challenging academic exam, emphasizing English and Math.

Lafayette will offer the opportunity for junior and sophomore students to take the PSAT during the school day on Wednesday, October 1st, 2025.

Juniors: This is your only opportunity to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Programs.
Sophomores: Test your skills and practice prior to your junior year.

The PSAT/NMSQT test is now digital. This new format is easier for students to take, shorter, has more time per question, and comes with a built-in calculator.

IEP and 504 Accommodations do not cover accommodations for College Board exams (PSAT, SAT, AP). The deadline to apply for accommodation for the PSAT is August 22nd.

How to Access Score Reports

Scores are available online through a student's College Board account, usually in December.
Nothing is mailed home by College Board or LHS
Students who qualify for National Merit Semi-Finalist or other awards will be notified in fall of 12th grade, usually in September
